Deputy Divisional Commissioner Jean-Bosco Galenga Makongo has just been appointed to head the police in the city and province of Kinshasa. This is the result of a series of presidential orders read out on Saturday night, April 2, on Radio Télévision Nationale Congolaise (RTNC).
In this position, Jean-Bosco Galenga Makongo replaces Sylvano Kasongo, who was promoted to Deputy Commissioner General of the Congolese National Police in charge of administration.
His appointment comes at a time when the “Kuluna” phenomenon is resurfacing in several corners of the city and province of Kinshasa, to the great dismay of the people of Kinshasa.
According to several testimonies, some neighborhoods of Kinshasa are experiencing brawls between groups of gangs from neighboring neighborhoods or communes. Faced with this situation, the mayors are often powerless and have always requested the involvement of the provincial executive and the central executive to strengthen security measures.
These new arrangements within the Congolese national police coincide with the ministerial reshuffle within the central government, where a new Minister of the Interior and Security has been appointed in the person of Peter Kazadi.
